Total U.S. health care
expenditures are projected to increase from $1.31 trillion in 2000
to $2.6 trillion in 2010, an average annual increase of 6.8%. By
2010, health spending as a share of gross domestic product is
estimated to increase from today’s 14.0 percent to 16.2 percent.

The world demand for nutritional
supplements is expected to increase by over 10% per year, reaching
$162 billion by next year. (Nutritional supplements include

The Dietary Supplement Information
Bureau (DSIB) reported that three in five consumers (59%) take
supplements on a regular basis, and that almost one in four
Americans (23%) regularly use herbs and specialty supplements.
And another $30 billion for

In December of last year, Newsweek
reported that half of the adults in the U.S. are going outside the
traditional system for some medical care – to alternative medicine.

complementary and alternative therapies grew by 25% between 1990 and
